Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
